Shelves 04:29
Quiet after speaking For we are hoping to be believed in. Find us after seeking Beneath the floorboards, near the creaking, And everyone is down at the dusty shelves With the racks to stack up trinkets Where we build the selves that we sought all along. All we’ll ever know is only what we’re shown But we never hope to be at the mercy of belief, So then we’re left to fare alone. We’d hide out under covers, From our parents, and our sisters and brothers, Then sneak out, turn off the TV, And find a mirror in the blank screen. And everyone is down at the dusty shelves With the racks to stack up trinkets Where we build the selves that we sought all along. And all we’ll ever know is only what we’re shown But we never hope to be at the mercy of belief, So then we’re left to fare alone. The windows in walls are glass paned cages, Where we watched the contrast raise up Then slowly fade away. And the billions wake to chase desire Then with the light retire To become part of the grey. And all we’ll ever know is only what we’re shown But we never hope to be at the mercy of belief, So then we’re left to fare alone.

I fought to find a place where we could look around The space between the worlds of vice and virtue We’d draw the line to face the smiles and crooked frowns And trace beneath to cleave what’s nice from what’s true. But pride is a prison And we’re walking in chains The mind casts its visions, Pre-decisions to only listen in vain. And if we’re judged on regressions Then I’ve the blackest of knees For with comprehension Comes the flawed fall begging, “Please, please, remember to forget me.” I sought to find the cure for merely dancing ‘round the words The rants for certain certainties to choose. And every time I blurred my broken looking crown you turned And recollected images of youth. You said, “Fear is for failures, You’ve got to stand straight and tall And honestly tell your Secrets sanctioned and tell them all. And if we’re judged on regressions, Then I’ve the blackest of knees For with comprehension Comes the flawed fall begging, ‘Please, please, remember to forget me.’” The candelabra on the mantel made of bricks had drawn The shadowed scene that played across the room. Each figures shape grew on, each candle flame had flicked upon The cast from carbon, incandescent truths. And illusions are favored When the dusk starts to fade So we constantly labor So as not to see the night for the day, But if we’re judged on regressions Then I’ve the blackest of knees And with comprehension Comes the flawed fall begging, “Please, please, remember to forget me.”

Fire:Shadow 03:12
Fire, fire dance And teach us of the endlessness of chance Fire, fire heed The consequences of unending greed. Because we’re always on the outside Looking for it on the inside Feel it coming and we all hide Looking for it on the inside. Then we’re running to our own sides Looking for it on the far side Feeling for it when we all tried Looking for it on the far side. Shadows, shadows turn From conceptions of that which once was yearned Shadows, shadows cross What’s claimed and lost We sit and listen and listen and listen! And we’re always on the outside Looking for it on the inside Feel it coming and we all hide Looking for it on the inside. Then we’re running to our own sides Looking for it on the far side Feeling for it when we all tried Looking for it on the far side.

I'll Die 03:57
Paralyzed by indecision with a will to wait, Terrified of the precision of a final piece in place. When a chip is on the shoulder, it’s a brick on the back, And we’re always growing older, yeah we’re always growing fast, So we try to be – but sometimes we just can’t leave. So I’ll die, I’ll die again When I, when I go cowering Then I’ll find, I’ll find the wind To touch my fingers and make me feel my skin. I will always try to listen to what the thunder said. I watch the sky light up and glisten but it stays inside my head And I try to be – but sometimes I just can’t leave So I’ll die, I’ll die again When I, when I go cowering Then I’ll find, I’ll find the wind To touch my fingers and make me feel my skin.

I never saw you in your pain And you never saw me in my pain So we’re expecting it to wash away No one ever wants to feel the blame. We built up the structures of “what is” A city of first person narratives And found that there’s a gap that sits between Everything that’s said and what’s perceived. And no one told us what to make of it And no one told us what to do When we get tired of hanging out Then come on, come on let’s go through. I felt the past start creeping in While you sought the language to begin And everything that we could choose would be Just as meaningful, just different. We Looked at the window, but it looked back So you pressed your face up against the glass And I could only see that we exist Doubled in the darkened evening mist. And no one told us what to make of it And no one told us what to do When we get tired of hanging out Then come on, come on let’s go through. All that we will ever be Is wrapped in what we’ll never see And all the fears and all the dreams Will never come, will never leave.

The Resolve 03:50
Old streets turn unto a stairwell, ascending to the resolve where We sell grief for grim and petty farewells, with you a hundred feet tall. And it’s tough when walking in rhythm to measure up with the time, So I stayed pondering direction for an infinite line. And I have fallen while wading through shallows Fell to fear for the blue So I guess I was just waiting to find out That you are human, too. Dark night, speaking about our souls, we were driving through a Place where we were not meant for, but it was all we could do. The whole time we were counting our curses, then stopped once for the stars You pulled a pen to put it in verses when we were back in the car. And I have fallen while wading through shallows Fell to fear for the blue So I guess I was just waiting to find out That you are human, too.

Stolen Water 04:39
We sat by the creek to watch it drink the day down Measured minutes with stone throws. We gathered thistled figs and grapes with thorns from the ground Reaping what we’d never sew. And all this time we praised the sweetness of stolen water For the secrets we’d undone. The blood and tears, the years of labor from our fathers For the ennui of their sons. And what do they have to do with us? They’re six feet under turning into dust! We’re amnesiac fools who burned all that we could have read To hush the democracy of the dead. We’ll fix the fire to fly and rise up from the embers The conflagration of our debts The frailty of the mind, how seldom we remember Of how soon we do forget. But what do they have to do with us? They’re six feet under turning into dust! We’re amnesiac fools who burned all that we could have read To hush the democracy of the dead.

Find a Way 04:04
The book you bought me resting on an antique shelf, I left it over summer just to be myself, But I still tried to find the face to let me in. The questions for confessions left me trying to explain, Like I was grabbing sand, fingers trickled grain, But the words I sought were still there on the ground, So the truth of it was scattered all around. If I could save it for another day, Then I might make it all be okay I’ll find a way. I’ll find a way. Pressed into a corner, pushing back to grace A piece of my decision with a hole in space, And suspect of all I thought I’d never feel. And I was feeling tired when you came to me A convalescent effort just to hear and see As a shadow mixed desire and regret To remind me of what I’d like to forget. If I could save it for another day, Then I might make it all be okay I’ll find a way. I’ll find a way.

Staying In 04:13
The unconsciously constructed idealistic characters That have incessantly obstructed what we know with what we prefer Make it hard to believe in any means As if what seems is real When anything can say, “The only thing is it will make you feel.” So we’re building walls and we will crawl, we’re staying in. We’ll build them tall to face the wild and channeled winds, But they fall unexpectedly and all will run For miles and miles beyond what we can see. Somewhere inside of me I saw a faint figure with a little gleam And the appearance of glossed ivory to present the past like a projection screen So now it’s hard to believe in any means As if what seems is real When anything can say, “The only thing is it will make you feel.” So we’re building walls and we will crawl, we’re staying in. We’ll build them tall to face the wild and channeled winds, But they fall unexpectedly and all will run For miles and miles beyond what we can see. I wondered if bones could take on flesh and dance again. Can I peacefully piece together all the veins and patch the skin? But all that we know we know we only know in part For the foresight is stifled by a fluid now and the memory is marred.

Will Remain 04:18
We’ll settle for the silence, The break after the bend Where the blacktop stops and the wanderer Finds the refuge but still knows that it’s the end. And there’s never any question Whether questions will remain So it’s always that our quests in What seems simple but could never be explained. Where do we come from and where do we go? We don’t know! We don’t know! Where do we come from and where do we go? We don’t know! We don’t know! Are we figuring slowly or wasting our time? We don’t know! We don’t know! Shouting in spaces but only to find that We don’t know? We don’t know! The more you loved the world Then the more you came to see Each individual person As a hindrance, or then merely as a means. And you said, “Where do we come from and where do we go? We don’t know! We don’t know! Where do we come from and where do we go? We don’t know! We don’t know! Are we figuring slowly or wasting our time? We don’t know! We don’t know! Shouting in spaces but only to find that We don’t know? We don’t know!” We met between the sunset And the lighting of the lamps In a dismal way you motioned For a smoke, and then in a muffled chant, We said, “Where do we come from and where do we go? We don’t know! We don’t know! Where do we come from and where do we go? We don’t know! We don’t know! Are we figuring slowly or wasting our time? We don’t know! We don’t know! Shouting in spaces but only to find that We don’t know? We don’t know!”

I fought my demons again. A rock in the ocean, the water’s spin And the waves crash down, but the stone’s not moving. I said it’d be different this time But time’s telling tales and I slowly find It’s the same lessons learned through a brand new storyline. When I was a child, young and free, I could look to the sky, I could look to the sea, And smile with assurance and honest sincerity. Now I’m wracked with my own disbelief, So I think and rethink with a bottle of ink, But the cork fell far and Eden sank to grief. Oh, no! It’s bound to break my bones! I’ve never seen a newer scene than where I’ve always roamed. My father told me a dream Where everything was certain, it was all as it seemed But the lines faded grey and he called it “waking.” So I asked, “What is being a man?” He looked sideways, sighed slowly and folded his hands, He said, “It’s knowing when to stand and when to understand.” Oh, no! It’s bound to break my bones! I’ve never seen a newer scene than where I’ve always roamed. “Oh, so what if they break?” He spoke. “Then you’re bound to see what you’re meant to be. We break and then we grow.”
